Meet Dr. Agee

Dr. Shawn Agee is a board certified vitreoretinal surgeon serving patients in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia who is trained and skilled to perform the most advanced treatments to correct and cure conditions of the retina. A Florida native, who grew up in Central Florida, Dr. Agee completed one of the highest volume surgical retina fellowships before joining Southeastern Retina Specialists where he uses his technical training and education to provide the most compassionate and technologically advanced vitreoretinal care to his patients.

Skills and Specialties

Dr. Agee performs the latest surgical techniques for a wide variety of vitreoretinal disorders, including retinal detachments, macular holes and macular puckers, vitreous hemorrhages, as well as other vitreoretinal conditions. He also diagnoses, manages, and treats age related macular degeneration (AMD), as well as specific diseases of the retina including diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, vascular occlusions, and more. Dr. Agee’s practice is equipped with the latest digital scanners, ophthalmology technology, and diagnostic tools so that a proper diagnosis can be made and an effective treatment plan put into action.

Education and Training

Dr. Agee received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Miami where he graduated with honors. He then earned his Medical Degree from Florida State University College of Medicine, where he was selected to be part of the exclusive Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, which is awarded to the top medical students in the country. He completed his internship in Houston, Texas and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. He then moved to Birmingham, Alabama to be part of the University of Alabama Birmingham and Retina Consultants of Alabama where he completed one of the highest surgical retinal training programs in the country, completing over 1400 surgical retinal cases which is triple the national average.

Personal

Dr. Agee now lives with his wife in Jacksonville, Florida, where he seeks to continue to provide the highest level of care to his patients. He is very excited to be back in Florida and serving his hometown community. When he is not busy seeing patients at Southeastern Retina Specialists, Dr. Agee enjoys running, cooking, golfing, and photography.
